Chris Thomson

Background

Chris has worked as a surf coach for over ten years and has been selected to teach at many specialist coaching workshops around the country including the O’Neill Surf Academy in Croyde and the English Surfing Federation’s All Girls Surf Day. Chris has also taught in the Canaries, Barbados, France and Morocco and created the unique 121 Surf Coach operation to develop new, personalised surf teaching methods, which he has now further evolved for the Errant Surf School. He now takes time out from running Errant Surf Holidays and professional surfing in contests to coach on a private level for all abilities at Watergate Bay in Newquay. He is currently a level three surf coach. Chris is also heavy involved in coaching aspiring young surfers and developed the Ground Swell CIC Foundation, sponsored by Errant, to provide unique new opportunities for this young talent pool to progress to new levels. Max Hepworth-Povey

Max is the Co-Owner, Chief Coffee Maker and extremely exciteable Errant Surf Coach who has coached in the UK and Europe. Since joining the Errant team in April 2011, Max has had one simple aim; to make Errant Surf School the best, most fun and ethical Surf School in the UK and has been know to start lessons at 7am for those wanting to experience a ‘dawnie’! Max is also an avid surfer and somehow seems to sneak in plenty of trips around the globe and always manages to find perfect empty waves. Jammy bugger. Book a lesson with Max.

Vince Timson

Qualifications

Surfing GB Level 3 Surf Coach, RNLI qualified lifeguard, NARS/Beach Lifeguard Training Instructor and Surf Life Saving Association examiner.

Background

Vince brings many years of surfing and surf coaching experience to the Errant Surf School. Vince is a committed member of the surf community and plays a key role in the Watergate Bay Surf Life Saving Club where he runs the weekly lifeguard training sessions ensuring all staff are constantly fit and up-to-date with the latest lifeguard and first aid material. Vince is the father of four surfing children, and one of his sons, Volcom and Errant Team Rider Harry Timson is the most promising consistent competitors at his level (and in all honesty, absolutely kills it!), proving Vince knows what it takes to coach younger surfers and adults alike, nurturing them towards the very best of their abilities. Will Jessup

Background

Will Jessup, hmmm. Will is the epitome of mixing work with pleasure, work hard play hard etc and it’s this fun-loving attitude that has seen Will coach around Europe (at the time of writing he’s coaching in Gran Canaria where he arrived with 20 euros!). Amy Stewart is an Australian Professional Surfer who came to Newquay in the Summer of 2011 and made a real name for herself by winning the Nike 6.0 Night Surf Competition at Fistral Beach, so you’re in safe hands doing a lesson with Amy! She’s also one of the nicest pro surfers you’ll ever meet. She’s currently living the nomad lifestyle roaming the world in search of perfect waves (we keep up to date with where she’s at by checking out her blog) but will be back in Summer 2012 so book a lesson with Amy

Sam Joyce

Sam is our multi-lingual young grommet surf coach. Annoyingly he’s the best on the Swellboards and not so annoyingly he takes some mean photos (check out his website here).
